About the Zine

The AroAce Pilot Zine centers around aroace Keith from the Voltron: Legendary Defender TV show. It will explore Keith's interactions with the world and people around him without him experiencing sexual or romantic attraction.

This is a charity zine which will benefit The Trevor Project, which is an LGBTQIA+ organization that's both ace-spec and aro-spec inclusive.

This zine will not only be the absence of romance and sex but the presence of aromanticism and asexuality.

The fics included will be a mix of specific aroace topics - such as coming out, discovering labels, fighting amatonormativity and aphobia, and common a-spec symbols such as spades, rings, and cakes - and fics that are more broadly about platonic relationships and found family. All of our fics will include aroace Keith specifically in some way, though.

The art in this zine will feature things such as common aro and ace symbols (the aforementioned spades, rings, cakes, etc), aroace-related visual puns, and works with color schemes based on the aro and ace flags.

We're so excited to work with everyone and bring more wonderful aroace Keith content to the fandom!

FAQs

Will the zine be digital, physical, or a mix?
Our current goal is a physical zine, possibly with merch. We'll keep you updated through our social media!

Where will the profit go?
This is a charity zine, and all profits will go to The Trevor Project, which is inclusive of both aros and aces.

Have the mods modded before?
We have one experienced mod, and the rest of us are excited to mod for the first time!

What are the zine specs?
We're currently planning for a perfect-bound A5 zine.

Will contributors get a copy of the zine?
Contributors will get a PDF copy of the finished zine.

Aspec is a spectrum. Are other aspec identities acceptable for Keith for this zine?
We acknowledge that every aspec and aroace person is different. For the purpose of this zine though, we ask that contributors only portray Keith as having no sexual or romantic attraction. Feel free to take creative liberties when it comes to the rest of Voltron, though!

Are allo/romantic ships allowed for side and background characters?
Yes, as long as it is a canon relationship (i.e. Hunk x Shay, Shiro x Curtis, Allura x Lance, Colleen x Sam, etc).

Is whump allowed?
Mild whump is allowed (like angst, canon-typical injuries), but for this zine we'd like to stay away from more intense things like gore or torture. If you're not sure, feel free to contact us!

Can I apply as an artist and a writer?
Sure! We do ask though that you make sure you'd be able to create both pieces for the zine in the event you get selected for both.
